Antique French Fruitwood & Rosewood Tea Caddy C.1880

Description

A very handsome late Victorian French tea caddy, dating to around 1880. A stunning decorative example made from contrasting Fruitwood (I think probably Apple) and exotic Rosewood.

All of the corners are rounded, and with the polished brass studs, it has the look of a trunk.

The box comes complete with a working key, the box once opened reveals a double compartment interior with unusual hinged lids made from Rosewood.

The two compartments are lined in glass with a papered base (recently re-lined in a hand-marbled paper coordinating with the paper used in the lid interior.

An unusual and highly decorative example in excellent condition, measuring 7 3/4" x 5 1/4" x 6 3/4" high.
