Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1850s.
The shell is glorious with it's iridescent qualities radiating a variety of colours.

There is a silver shield shaped cartouche to the centre of the lid with the original engraved monogram, very regal looking. To the front there is a silver escutcheon which houses the working key.
The lid opens to reveal a double compartment interior with two silver inlaid tortoiseshell lids. 7 3/4" x 5 1/4" x 5" tall.
