Stunning Antique English Mother of Pearl Inlaid Tortoise Shell Tea Caddy C.1850

Description

A really fabulous example of an English Victorian Tortoiseshell tea caddy, standing on four bun feet.

The domed lid and bow front are smothered with glorious Mother of Pearl or Nacre Shell inlay in the form of large scrolls, and floral and foliate motifs with inlaid twisted rope silver stems. The shell is glorious with it's iridescent qualities radiating a variety of colours.

There is a silver shield shaped cartouche to the centre of the lid with the original engraved monogram, very regal looking. To the front there is a silver escutcheon which houses the working key.

The lid opens to reveal a double compartment interior with two silver inlaid tortoiseshell lids. 7 3/4" x 5 1/4" x 5" tall.
