Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian marquetry desk box is a decorative tabletop container popular during the late 19th century, featuring intricate wood veneers inlaid to form pictorial scenes or geometric patterns, traditionally used for storing stationery or personal keepsakes.

These boxes were constructed primarily from fine hardwoods such as walnut, mahogany, or rosewood, with decorative scenes created using contrasting fruitwoods, boxwood, and sycamore, often completed with brass lock fittings.

Authentic period pieces display fine hand-cut veneer joinery, natural age-related shrinkage in the wood grain, period-appropriate brass hardware, and original lock mechanisms accompanied by fitted keys.

Place the box on a writing bureau, sideboard, or bookshelf alongside contemporary books and neutral accessories to allow the detailed marquetry craftsmanship to act as a focal accent.

Keep the item away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent the veneers from lifting or warping, dust regularly with a soft microfibre cloth, and apply high-grade natural beeswax polish sparingly.
