Description

The majority of salt bags (namakdan) from the region of Chakhansur are tightly brocaded in flatweave technique. Knotted-pile salt bags from this area are rare. This bag came out of Afghanistan a few weeks ago and I was quick to snap it up from my runner contact. This is a beautiful bag with knotted pile on both sides and original tassels. The selvedges of the bag are braided in amazingly fine work, indicating that the bag was very special indeed.
