Lucian Chenu was born in Vendee, France on the 21st August 1913. Chenu received formal art training and graduated from Ecole des Beaus Arts in Paris and became a member of various important art associations. Chenu was a member of the Directorate of the Association de Artistes Francais. He was also President of the Salon Violet, Section Beaux Arts of the Association Nationals des Palmes Academiques. Other important achievements include:

President of the Association of Art Connoisseurs at Vanves, Treasurer of the Salon d'hiver (Winter-Salon), Bronze Medal at the Salon de Levallois Perret in 1954, Silver Medal at the Department de la Seine in 1956, Honourable mention at the Salon de Artistes Francais 1961, Prize of the Art Association of Levallois Perret 1964, Silver Medal of the Salon Violet 1964
