Description

Acquired from a private deceased estate, along with several others to be illustrated on this page, salt bags like this are now few and far between. This fabulous 'namakdan' (salt bag) was woven by Sanjabi nomads in Kurdistan during the second half of the 19th century. In near mint condition, the bag is beautifully brocaded on the front with an equally superb plain-weave back and brocaded with large diamond shapes. The base of the bag is knotted in pile to give resiliance when it was in use.

Size: 68cm x 36cm (2' 3" x 1' 2").
