An early mahogany wheel barometer by this well known and prolific maker.

The 8" diameter finely engraved silvered brass dial calibrated from 28" to 31" with engraved weather indications set on the outer edge and an elaborate and well executed engraving to the centre. The makers name and address also finely engraved to the centre of the dial. The barometer reading is indicated by a blued steel hand and can be recorded with a brass set hand, controlled with the brass knob set within the glazed concave bezel. The early type alcohol thermometer set within a silvered brass scale calibrated from 10 to 100 Fahrenheit and engraved with ornate flourishes of flowers and foliage.

The mahogany veneered case of excellent colour with high quality chequer strung edge inlay and cross-banded sides. The case also features exceptionally well crafted oval inlays and roundels, an architectural pediment and a brass finial. Set above short shoulders and herringbone inlay which are typical of this early wheel barometer period. A rare example.

Note: A large family of Instrument Makers listed as working from 1795-1825 from this particular address. Their Craftsman ship is always of the highest quality. Early Wheel barometers are now becoming increasingly difficult to obtain.
