Antique English Playing Card Box "Patience" (Solitaire) by Houghton & Gunn

Description

A wonderful miniature playing card box made from a rich Burgundy coloured Morocco Leather with a gold embossed label across the front "Patience", known as solitaire in North America.

Once the lid is lifted, the top notch retailer of Houghton & Gunn can be seen at 162 Bond Street London which was bought out by the world renowned Asprey in 1906, making this piece Victorian in era, probably around 1880.

What also makes this really very special are the complete original playing cards in really immaculate condition.

A superb box with two decks of cards in excellent condition. The box measures 2 1/8" wide x 1 5/8" deep x 2 3/4" tall. Each playing card measures 2 1/2" x 1 3/4".
