A Very Original Mahogany Child's Chair on Stand Circa 1820.

Description

This beautiful period child's chair on stand is in very original condition. It includes the restraining rail, (nearly always missing), and the adjustable, two position foot rest. This is another item that has nearly always been lost over time.

The chair is circa 1820 and is of excellent colour with the original horse hair stuffed seat which appears to show the original covering.

These chairs were the preserve of the wealthy and gave the option of, when required, bringing a child to the main table to share a family meal while maintaining the theme of matching dining room furniture. This chair would have matched the set of dining chairs in every detail. The chair and base could be separated and often the base would be used as a feeding or play table for the child in the nursery.

This is a family piece and has come directly for sale after generations with one family.

These are rare items but can be very practical and decorative too. Much loved amongst the doll collecting enthusiasts but a wonderful usable potential heirloom for a growing family!
