Description

A stunning sarcophagus shaped tea caddy in Mahogany with stunning hand painted decoration, dating to the early nineteenth century, around 1820.

The caddy is painted on all sides including the back with classical figural images with floral and foliate garlands.

The lid lifts to reveal a lovely original fitted interior with a central cut crystal mixing bowl to blend the two teas to taste. One of the removable cannisters would have contained Green Tea, the other Black Tea; they would be custom blended in the bowl and transferred to a teapot.

Complete with a working key, this highly decorative gem remains in excellent condition. The lid measures 15" x 7 3/4" and the box stands 7 1/2" tall
