Antique English Jewelry or Table Box - Mother of Pearl Inlaid Rosewood C.1840

Description

A really stunning box, highly decorative, the type we like to find but harder and harder to come by.

Created from exotic (and expensive) Rosewood, the box is decorated with the most intricate engraved foliate Mother of Pearl inlay interspersed with fine scrolls of pewter stringing.

The box would make a perfect jewelry box or desk box or simply a box to enjoy in that special place. The box opens to reveal a re-lined interior with a hand-marbelled paper creating a fresh finish ready to use, one of the original tabs is missing (the left-hand side one). The box does not have a key, the pins to the top of the lock are missing but better to have this original lock kept rather than replacing it.

A top-notch work of art, dating to around 1840, very early Victorian in era. The box is in excellent condition. 10 3/4" x 7 3/4" x 4" tall.
