Marylebone Antiques has dated this piece to the 1860s.
This desk has a wonderful shape all over & looks the same back & front. There is a drawer on the front part with a key, which was working, but for some reason we couldn't open it when we photographed it. We have sent this piece back to our restorer to fix & it will be working fine. The drawer is open now, but my restorer advises not to lock it, because the lock is too old. We could always have a new key cut for the lock, but it's easy to just open the drawer without a key. I would date this piece to around the 1860-80's period, but it could be much older. Please don't confuse this desk with all the cheap reproductions flooding the market. This is the real deal.
