Description

A rare example of a Victorian novelty cruet, the base or plinth being engraved to form paving stones. It is on the base where the English diamond shaped design registration lozenge can be found. The right had letter is rubbed and this is the one that would give us the exact date of registration.

The configuration of this lozenge dates it between 1868-1883, so a fabulous period piece.

The tall pepper is in the form of a water pump with an insert that pulls out for use; the mustard is the form of a milk churn and the open salt in the form of a coopered bucket or pail. Unusually there is the inclusion of a Cayenne box engraved on the top of the hinged lid.

A fabulous piece in excellent condition. The base measures 6 1/4" x 4 1/2" and standing 4 1/2" tall to top of water pump.
