Unusual Antique English Salad Bowl in Wicker & Silverplate C.1885

Description

A really fabulous find, it's quite miraculous that this has survived the last 130 years or so, really unusual too.

The ceramic insert is undamaged (quite amazing too) with just some usual age crazing which can be seen in the photographs, any staining could probably be bleached out if desired.

The wicker or basket weave stand is set on a footed base made from silverplate, both sides have a ring handle and the front and back an oval cartouche. The salad servers are original to the bowl with wicker handles.

There are matching marks to the underside of the foot and the two servers, for Rupert Favell, Elliot & Co. of London, this mark only used between 1883 and 1890, allowing us to date it accurately.

Excellent condition the diameter of the ceramic bowl measures 9". The wicker holder measures 11" from handle to handle and the piece stands 6" tall. The servers measure 10 3/4" long.
