Rare Antique English Silver Plated Moving Wine Coaster by Elkington - 1846

Description

A really fun and most unusual Victorian w coaster on "wheels" which would have been moved up and down the table.

It would probably have accommodated a slim wine decanter but a bottle fits perfectly.

The pierced or reticulated body surrounds a cartouche to the front and all sits on a wooden base. There are three Ivory balls which act as wheels, moving the coaster reasonably well on a tablecloth, I wouldn't suggest using on a polished tabletop.

Made from silverplate and by the top-notch silversmith, Elkington & Co. with the date number 6 for the year 1846, 167 years old!

A really interesting and usable piece in excellent condition. The opening for a decanter or bottle measures 3 1/8" in diameter, the base has a diameter measuring 5 1/4" and the coaster stands 4 1/2" tall.
