Antique English Sheffield Plate Salver or Tray - Ship - James Dixon C.1835

Description

A really grand and interesting William IV old sheffield plate salver, with a fabulous nautical themed Armorial Crest of an old clipper ship, with the latin motto Deus Dabit Vela (God will fill the sails).

Made from Old Sheffield Plate, which is silver over copper this piece dates to around 1835 and by the very well regarded silversmith of James Dixon, with a full mark on the underside.

The salver has an exquisite raised border or grapevines with beautiful hand chased foliate decoration surrounding the central cartouche which features the marine themed armorial family crest.

The salver stands on three very grand feet, this is magnificent tray in excellent condition measuring 14 1/4" in diameter.
