Neo Classicism in the mid 19th century was very much favoured during the Regency Period no doubt among other discoveries it was inspired and fuelled by the Elgin Marbles that were brought to Britain in 1812.

There was an enormous revival of interest in Classical and Renaissance art from about 1850. When more Archaeological discoveries in Greece, Italy and Egypt around that time fuelled the imagination of designers and the use of architectural elements from ancient Greek and Roman buildings was a key characteristic of the Classical and Renaissance Revival style. This can clearly be seen in the design of this particular wardrobe.

Quality of construction was paramount also to the design, using only the best of woods and craftsmanship.
This is an exceptional mid 19th century Compactum wardrobe and in very good original condition with a lovely deep colour and patination to the quality Burr Ash & Rosewood and oozing all the charm and character of the period.
