Early Carriage Clock

19th century
Description

An early example of a carriage clock. The original case gilding with a bowed fluted handle. Thick bevelled glass panels and a solid back door. A quality original lever escapement with engraving. A silvered brass dial signed 'Vieyres 40 Pall Mall London'. An 8-day duration mechanism striking the 1/2 hours and hours on a bell. An outside striking countwheel and engraved name to the bottom of the mechanism.

Antonio Viegres of London is recorded in Loomes 'Watchmakers and clockmakers of the world' as working from 1832-1844.
