Unusual Antique Paper Mache Needles Box by Jennens & Bettridge C.1860

Description

A most unusual antique English Papier Mache box made by the creme de la creme of makers, Jennens & Bettridge, makers to Her Majesty, Queen Victoria.

What makes this unusual is that it is a sewing needles box with the longest needles housed on on two removable dividers. The interior retains it's original fabric and paper, a really charming box.

The exterior is decorated with Mother of Pearl or Nacre shell inlay, with it's iridescent qualities making the box sparkle.

The key is not working and is for display purposes only, a lovely finishing flourish to this English gem in excellent condition. Signed Jennens & Bettridge on the underside. 9 1/2" x 4" x 2 1/2".
