Marylebone Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
It looks like mahogany, although it may be teak. Like all these models, it separates into two sections, because these chests were made to be carried around in the campaigns & they are always very heavy. Beware of the many imitations in the market, which have been converted from normal Victorian chests.
