Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1850s.
The exquisite panels to the front and sides are beautifully preserved with gold decoration.
The interior is lined in Vellum, with a pocket within the lid, this is delicate and should be handled with care, there is tear to one side of the side.
There is a key to the box which allows opening, the key turns anti-clockwise (not clockwise as one would expect) and the lid has to be opened while the key is being turned, this action is repeated to then close the box again.
A wonderful, highly decorative and unusual box in very good condition. 17 3/4" x 4 3/4" x 5".
