Antique English Inlaid Walnut Table or Desk Box C.1880

Description

A really handsome box, very usable or useful as a jewelry box or perfect on a desk to collect all those bits and pieces, stationery or pens.

This unusual example stands on four turned bun feet and has rounded corners. The box is finished in all sorts of Walnut veneers inlaid with stringing and the lid edged in a shaped Ebonised border.

The box opens to reveal an interior relined in a hand-marbled paper, creating a clean and very usable finish.

The box comes with a key for display purposes, finishing it off. The key does send the pins across but the top part of the lock (on the lid) have been cut open at some point when the key must have been lost. The lock is best left original and untouched.

A fabulous handsome Victorian piece in excellent condition, measuring 10 3/4" x 7 7/8" x 3 3/4" tall.
