A most unusual hipflask, with a kidney shape, made to fit the pocket contouring to the body.
What makes this one unusual is the large removable sterling silver sleeve which almost covers the entire glass flask.
The hinged lid is a bayonet type fitting requiring a twist and lift action and has a cork filling to keep an airtight fit to avoid spilling and evaporation of the precious contents.
Both the sleeve and top are hallmarked for Sheffield 1900, making this a late Victorian example. The makers initials J.D.&S are present for the top-notch silversmith, James Dixon & Sons.
Excellent condition, minor wear commensurate with age, measuring 4 3/4'' tall x 2 7/8''.
