Unusual Sewing Box with Porcelain Panel

Description

A charming and very unusual mid-19th century lady's SEWING BOX of small size with the rare feature of a handpainted porcelain panel set within the lid, which depicts a Continental Alpine scene surrounded by gilt scrollwork.

The front is prettily inlaid with brass scrolls and Mother-of-pearl flowers and leaves, whilst inside is the full set of five Mother-of-pearl cotton reels; matching tape measure; tools; ivory brush and the original locking key. Some staining to the silk inside the lid.
