Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1850s.

There is a strike on the underside, where a match would be struck and could be placed in the tiny hole in the lid (like a candle); the flame would have been used to melt the sealing wax. The hole is small and a modern match would have to be shaved down to fit, I only mention this is you wanted to display it with a match.

There is a push button to the front of the box, you have to firstly establish the front from the back, to find the button. The hinged lid opens to reveal the original velvet lining. There is an old hand-written note inside with some provenance.
Dating to c.1850, this superb box remains in excellent condition. 4 3/4" x 3 3/4" x 2 1/2" to top of basket finial.
