Description

A fabulous and most unusual inkwell in the form of Windsor Castle, probably a souvenir made for visitors to the towns of Windsor & Eton.

It is cast and silver plated, made by the top notch silversmith, Mappin & Webb of London and Sheffield, with the full mark on the underside.

The front is lucky enough to have a highly sought-after English design registration number; a five figure number stating with a 3 would date this to 1885, so Victorian in era.

The lid lifts to reveal a removable ceramic ink chamber for easy filling and cleaning.

A real gem in excellent condition, with a base diameter measuring 4 1/4" and standing 5 1/4" tall to top of flag.
