A Large English Landscape: Oil on Canvas

Description

J.M.SOUTHERN RA: a really impressive and large oil on canvas landscape by this recorded Victorian artist, who specialised in painting scenes in Wales.

It depicts a lone fisherman in a punt on a Welsh river, with trees and meadows in the background and ducks paddling away merrily in the foreground. Beautifully painted and in fine clean condition. Signed to the lower right-hand corner: J.M.Southern RCA.

Measurements: 54ins wide; 34ins high including the good gilded frame (137 x 79cms).

* J.M.SOUTHERN is recorded as flourishing between 1879 and 1892, exhibiting at the Royal Academy between 1879 and 1882. He was based in Liverpool and travelled into Wales to paint the stunning scenery there.
