Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1880s.

When putting these together, I have wrapped the pin (this is critical to put these scales together) and labelled it in the drawer .. see the photographs to see how this pin just slots in the top and secures the scales. The balance is signed W.A Webb London.

The set comes complete with some polished brass apothecary weights as seen in the photographs. The two brass pans when resting sit on the top of the Mahogany base and when needed the lever in the centre is pushed down to allow the scales to do their job.

Dating to the Victorian era, a wonderful showy piece as a medical related gift, it would be perfect on a desk. Excellent condition and a good impressive size, standing a total of 18" tall; the base measuring 12 1/2" x 7 1/4". All the brass has been professionally polished to gleam.
