Pair of Roman Grand Tour Oils of a Boy and Girl in Traditional Italian Costume

Description

A Charming Pair of Roman Grand Tour Paintings of an Italian young boy and girl in traditional costume, he sat on a rock, she winnowing in a mountainous landscape, painted on canvas inscribed bottom right 'ROMA', the reverse of the canvas stamped for an art supplier '**** ROMA, 69 VIA CONDOTTI', the stretcher with indistinct ink marks also inscribed Roma.

These charming portraits were typical of works by jobbing local artists supplied to the wealthier tourist in the 19th Century.

Condition: Darkened varnish surrounded by a lighter band which would have been underneath the original frames, he has a small pin prick hole to the left, various wear and tear commensurate with age, otherwise very good.

21.5 x 28cms.

Declaration

Hand of Glory has dated this piece to the 1880s.
