Scottish Longcase Clock by Pirrie of Perth

19th century
Description

An excellent example of Scottish clock making.

The 8 day duration movement striking the hours on a bell with arched white dial showing date, seconds, matching brass hands and Roman numberals with Arabics at each quarter. The arch of the dial depicting Queen Marys escape from Loch Leven Castle on 2nd May 1568 and the four continents to each corner.

The fine mahogany case with flame veneers set within panels to both trunk and base. The trunk flanked by twisted quarter columns. The hood with brass capped twisted angle pillars and swan neck top with central brass finial.

Note: John Pirrie of Perth is recorded as working at 1 King Street in 1820. He died in 1857. In 1848 he is listed as being appointed Receiving Postmaster.
