M Lees and Sons has dated this Japanese Lacquer Shodana Cabinet to the 19th Century.
Traditional painted decoration featuring. flowers , plants , birds and landscapes with mother of pearl /abalone-shell inlaid detailing. The interior of the doors with further decoration in contrasting coloured lacquer . The inside of the drawer linings also having been lacquered.

The top of the cabinet with a panel of extensive decoration, the ends having circular ‘mons’ motifs ( family crests) .
Fitted with patinated as bronze , engraved metal mounts .
Some minor historic wear and chips to the cabinet , the shaped cabriole leg stand with some damage and losses to the lacquer, particularly to the ‘knees’ .
Constructed in 2 parts for ease of movement and transportation.
Finished and decorated to all sides , of freestanding design.
