An Extremely Rare French Silver Drageoir by Alphonse Debain.

1900 - 1920
Description

A lovely and intricate French Antique Silver and Crystal Drageoir by Alphonse DEBAIN.

In France they are called ‘Drageoir’ or ‘Confiturier’ – But the only official name is a ‘Confiturier’ (Hence a Jam container), and it turns out that originally they were only thought of and used as Ceremonial Sugar Bowls.

This piece is by ‘Maitre Orfèvre’ Alphonse Debain of Paris. The body is Baluster shaped and rests on a solid silver pedestal with four detailed feet.

The silver handles are looped and decorated and the cover is domed, with a spoon aperture and with a monogram engraved. The finial is steeple shaped. The glass body is slice cut.

Condition :- Excellent, with no splits or dents to the silver and no chips or cracks to the glass.

Hallmarks :- Corresponding French marks on handles, lid, rim and base.

Maker :- Alphonse Debain

Alphonse DEBAIN was the son of Alphonse Edouard Debain and his Mark was entered on March 19th 1883 – It was cancelled on March 8th 1911

Height :- 15 cms. (highest point).

Width to outside of handles :- 14 cms.
