Rosewood Bracket Clock

19th century
Description

A fine quality eight day rosewood and brass inlaid Bracket/Table Clock with decorative brass inlay to the front of the case and its canted corners. The sides of the case have brass fish scale sound fretted panels.

The movement is a five pillar twin fusee with pull repeat action and anchor escapement. The Clock is also fitted with a silent-strike lever at the top of the dial and the pendulum is fitted with top adjustment above the bob. The Clock strikes the hours on a bell.

The Clock has a white painted eight inch dish dial with the makers name. The movement frontplate behind the dial is also signed with the makers name:-

JAMES CONDLIFF

Fraser Street

LIVERPOOL

James Condliff set up his business in 1816 on Gerard Street in Liverpool before expanding to Circus Street, Fraser Street and later Clare Street. The Industrial Revolution had ensured that large numbers of workers were involved in watchmaking in Liverpool, Condliff's business expanded to become one of the most successful in the country, particularly renowned for skeleton clocks and regulators. It is thought that James Condliff died in 1884.

The Clock movement has been cleaned and serviced.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
