Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.
The rich and highly prized Pollard Oak is covered in a plethora of polished brass mounts with swing handles to the sides and a front hinged catch to the front, the like of which I have never seen on this type of caddy before.

To the right of this hinged catch is the key hole, which houses the working tasselled key. Once unlocked the hinge can be lifted and the lid opened.
The interior reveals a twin compartment caddy with star mounts to each of the lids.

A superb and impressive piece dating to around 1860. The footprint measures 10 1/2" x 5 1/2" and the caddy stands 7 1/4" tall.
