Grand Tour Convex Reverse Glass Painting of Piazza Dei Miracoli Pisa

Description

A large and unusual Antique Grand Tour Reverse Glass and Mother of Pearl embellished Painting of the Piazza dei Miracoli in Pisa. The vignette executed circa 1870 on a convex glass, within its original gilt gesso frame, featuring The Leaning Tower of Pisa (Campanile), the Duomo and the Baptistry.

51cm x 59cm

Condition is good overall; there are some paint losses and deterioration of the original glue that holds the mother of pearl to the glass. The frame has its original gilded finish. Some of the marks in the photograph are due to light reflection on the convex glass.

Hand of Glory has dated this piece to the 1870s.
