Antique Sterling Silver Heart Photograph Frame - Art Nouveau & Cherubs by William Comyns - 1897

Description

A magnificent photograph frame dating to the late Victorian era, and by one of London's most accomplished silversmiths of the day, William Comyns.

The pierced or reticulated sterling silver creates a heart shaped aperture which is glazed to protect your cherished picture, with a large vacant cartouche to the top.

The silver has a stylized Art Nouveau feel, with a plethora of flowers and foliage. The top two corners incorporate two very English Lions rampant. The bottom corners have two vignettes of Art Nouveau ladies with cherubs. Around the frame are other cherubs or Putti figures incorporated including one with bow and arrow.

The right hand corner is where the full English hallmark for London 1897 together with the silversmith's initials W.C.

A really quite magnificent frame in excellent condition and about as romantic as they get. The full frame measures 5" wide x 7 1/2" tall (max). The heart shaped aperture measures 3 1/2" at widest x 4 3/4" at tallest.
