Stunning Antique English Rosewood & Tunbridge Ware Glove Box C.1860

Description

A beautiful and unusual example of a Victorian Tunbridgeware box, the intricate work around the sides makes it rather special.

Originating in the Georgian town of Tunbridge Wells, Kent, visitors began buying wooden souvenirs from the woodworkers of surrounding areas such as Tonbrige and Speldhurst. During the 1830's James Burrows developed the tessellated mosaic technique which became the most well known type of Tunbridge Ware.

The box has a domed top and once opened reveals an interior professionally re-lined in a hand-marbelled paper.

Excellent condition, measuring 9 1/2" x 4" x 3" tall.
