Wasbrough of Bristol Mahogany Longcase Clock

Description

A highly desirable mahogany Longcase Clock of small and pleasing proportions.

The 8 day duration movement striking the hours on a bell and featuring seconds and date to the full brass dial. Also with separate silvered brass chapter ring, matted centre, seconds ring, date aperture surrounded with engraved flowers and scrolls, blued steel hands and brass spandrels to the corners. The makers name engraved to the silvered chapter ring.

The small and well proportioned case with a long trunk door of solid mahogany and a well figured base standing on a single plinth.

The hood with plain mahogany attached pillars with brass Doric capitals and with inspection windows to the side. The flat top pediment with a blind sound fret of typical Bristol design.

Note: Longcase Clocks of this style and design - being of mahogany, a full brass dial and of a small size are now increasingly difficult to find. This is a particularly excellent example. The Wasbrough Family were Clockmakers, Brassfounders and Ironmasters. All working during the latter half of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century.

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.
