Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1900s.
The case has a ball and ring attached, to either attach to a fob and chain or perhaps a Chatelaine. It would make an interesting piece of jewelry, on a silver chain and hung around the neck.
The back is beautifully engraved surrounding a central cartouche.

There is a full hallmark for Birmingham 1904, making this an Edwardian gem, the makers initials S&B are also present.
Excellent condition measuring just shy of 1" x 1" (1 3/4" including ring).
