Description

This stunning prayer rug was possibly made by the Shahraki-Sarbandi Baluch tribe of Sistan province, south-eastern Persia around 1860/1870.

The rug is in excellent condition and retains its fabulous, brocaded, flatwoven skirts at each end - most unusual in design. The central 'tree-of-life' is depicted on a natural camel-hair background and small stylised creatures can be seen on either side of the '8-pointed star' at the very top of the tree. This is a highly collectable prayer rug of this tribal group.

Size: 1.63m x 0.94m (5' 4" x 3' 1").
