P A Oxley Antique Clocks & Barometers has dated this piece to the 1800s.
The thermometer calibrated from 10º to 100º Fahrenheit. The very slim and elegant flame mahogany veneered case inlaid with thick ebony stringing to the edge and a turned cistern cover to the base with transportation screw. The simple moulded pediment set above the main dial. A highly desirable instrument.
Note: Jacob Abraham was working in Bath from 1805 to 1841. He also owned premises in Cheltenham. He is listed as an important Maker and was Instrument Maker to the Duke of Gloucester and the Duke of Wellington. This barometer is of a very high quality both in the materials used and workmanship but also the unusual slim case design.
