Porcelain has a beautiful Pompadour Rose pink ground and each piece is delicately decorated with floral swags and over glaze gilt decoration. Each piece is signed to the rear by the artist. To the top of the case is an elaborate porcelain urn with a beautifully painted portrait of Marie Antoinette. Two charming cherubs are depicted on the lower panels.
The clock is complete with it's original velvet covered gesso base. The rear of the case is signed for the case maker 'P. H. Mourey' (see pictures below).
The French movement is by Japy Freres and has the clockmakers mark on the movement backplate. It is of high quality and is in excellent clean and running condition having been fully overhauled by our clockmaker. Pendulum is original. It runs for 8 days and strikes the hours and halves on a bell. Click the video clip below to hear the bell and watch the clock running!
Condition of the case is very good, there is some wear to the original gilding and we have polished it to a bright and clean finish. The rear of the case has some original foundry faults which don't detract. The porcelain is in excellent condition, there is a tiny chip at the top of the lower left hand panel which is hardly noticeable. The vast majority of the over-glaze gilt decoration is fresh and complete with remarkably little wear including the dial. the gesso base is also in good condition with some wear and chips. We have replaced the red velvet. This is a stunning clock to add to your collection
