A Writing Box That Will Take Some Beating!

19th century
Description

An excellent quality mid-19th century Coromandel-wood WRITING BOX in very good original condition.

The box itself is of finest figured coromandel, bound with gilt brass Gothic strapwork and inset with a total of nine handpainted oval porcelain plaques which depict cherubs etc.

The domed lid opens to reveal the fitted interior with mother-of-pearl tools etc., and the original pair of engraved and gilded travelling inkwells, whilst the front opens out to reveal the gilt-tooled velvet writing surface underneath which the interior is lined in finest satinwood. Original Bramah key.
