Magnificent Antique English Hand Painted Papier Mache Jewelry Cabinet C.1860

Description

The decoration on this stunning table cabinet is quite superb, and unbelievable how pristine the condition is. Both the hand painting the the gilding are in amazing, clean and crisp condition.

Made from Papier Mache, the cabinet base and lid is beautifully shaped and without damage. The two doors to the front are also beautifully decorated and the sides also hand painted with a floral vignette.

The lid lifts to reveal a beautifully velvet lined fitted compartment for Jewelry, the original was very tatty, so we had this professionally re-finished to create a clean and very usable jewellery box.

The drawers each have Mother of Pearl pulls and are un-lined and original, they were never lined in the past ... perfect for keeping letters, papers, photographs or costume jewellery.

A superb cabinet, highly decorative and ready to use for the next 150 years. The footprint measures 11" x 10", the lid measures 9" x 7 3/4" and stands 11 1/2" tall.
