An very fine example of Victorian English domestic silver. A pair of heavy tongs in Old English 'feather edge' design. Originally categorised as chop or bacon tongs, in present-day life they could be used for any purpose, such as cakes, where individual items of food are messy to lift with fingers. Hallmarked for London 1869, they are in 'as new' condition, with excellent hallmarks. They are the work of the very well-known Victorian maker George Adams. Crest of a crowned lion holding a leafy branch.
