Rare Antique English Essex Crystal Inkwell - Prince of Wales Feathers C.1880

Description

A magnificent find, I have never seen another inkwell topped with an Essex crystal, a really special find.

Dating to around 1880, the glass inkwell has a footprint measuring 1 5/8" square. The screw top is made from brass with a magnificent inset Essex Crystal. Essex crystals are essentially made from

Rock Crystal carved and engraved from behind and then hand painted, usually seen on small pieces of jewellery.

This one has a very special decoration with a wonderful large Prince of Wales feathers with the banner below engraved Ich Dien or I serve.

A fabulous and highly collectible gem in excellent, undamaged condition, standing 1 7/8" tall.
