Description

A really wonderful pair of Tortoiseshell opera glasses dating to the late Victorian or Edwardian era.

Made from an early Aluminium, favoured in it's day for it's light weight, pairs made from this material were revolutionary and commanded a huge price.

This pair is lucky enough to have the two drawer lorgnette handle, most elegant. The tortoiseshell is perfect on this pair, without damage .. the eye pieces are mounted with a black Mother of pearl shell or Abalone shell .. one tiny rough spot on one if you rub your finger around, totally insignificant and mentioned purely for accuracy.

A superb pair in fabulous condition, measuring 4" wide x 2 1/8" tall expanding to 2 5/8"; the handle measuring 4 1/8" expanding to 8 1/4".
