Rare & Magnificent Antique English Biscuit Box with Wine Coasters - Cherubs - C.1880

Description

A quite magical piece of English silver plated tableware, this would make the most magnificent centrepiece to any buffet or bar, the likes I have never seen before.

Dating to around 1880, the design of this caddy clearly showcases typical Victorian motifs from the adorable Cherub or Putti figures embossed to the central panels (back and front) of the biscuit box to mythical faces to the Egyptian Revival finial to the top.

The two coasters are fitted with the original Fruitwood bases and the surrounds of the coasters almost seem to be in the form of Water Lillies, beautifully engraved.

A superb and grand piece in excellent condition, the base spanning 18" wide x 10 1/2" deep and towering 15" tall to top of integral handle. The bottles pictured appear not to stand straight, this is an illusion.
