Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1860s.
Made from solid Oak, the box is clad with heavy cast brass, it has clearly been lovingly hand buffed over it's lifetime; normally, we would have these fittings professionally removed and cleaned to gleam, but I felt this one was best left with it's natural antique patina.
The top of the box has the words "Propagation Of The Faith" enamelled in black and in superb condition. The box is clearly constructed to fit on a wall with wall plates to help with this.
The box comes complete with it's original working brass padlock and key which once opened allows the hinged lid to be opened and emptied.
A most unusual piece in excellent original condition, 11 3/4" tall including brass hanging plates x 7" Wide x 4 1/8" deep.
