Pretty English Sterling Silver Inkwell - Foliate Trim - 1916

Description

A fabulous departure from the ordinary capstan style sterling silver inkwell. This is lovely quality and highly decorative and unusual with the border around the hinged lid and base foliate sprigs tied with ribbon, a more decorative take on a Ribbon and Reed design.

There is a full hallmark for Birmingham 1916, so 97 years old and by the top-notch silversmith, Martin Hall & Co. The front has an integral pen rest channeled out to sit one's dip pen (pen shown not included).

The hinged lid opens to reveal a small removable glass liner for ease of refilling and cleaning.

Very stylish and in superb condition, the base measuring 3 1/2" in diameter and standing 2 1/4" tall.
